Hairdressing students showcase winning designs

Level 1 Hairdressing students from Newcastle-under-Lyme College (NULC) competed for industry standard prizes as part of their Level 2 Higher Project.  The students planned and organised the event, which was held at the College this week.

The hairdressing students showcased their hair designs in a stunning catwalk show.  The designs were based on a retro theme, which students had to research and then create hair designs inspired by their research.

NULC principal Karen Dobson alongside industry professionals including local salon owners judged the students’ creations.  The winning students will go on to form part of the NULC Skills Squad who are aiming to compete in national and international competitions such as the World Skills competitions.

Jane Brentnall Curriculum Manager of Hair, Beauty and Holistic Therapies “It’s the first time the students have been involved in undertaking a higher project during their course.  This event has been a great celebration of their work and given the students the opportunity to showcase their outstanding skills to local salon owners.”

She continues “These Level 1 students taking part in the event only joined the College in September 2010 and are already excelling.  I am very proud of what they are achieving.”
